I would like to be certified to teach. How do I change my major?
The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Culture certifies students to teach PK-4th Grade Early Childhood, 4-8 English, Language Arts, and Social Studies, or 4-8 Math/Science.  To change your major, a minumim of 2.75 GPR is required.  To view other requirements, please click here.
 
What are Mandatory Group Meetings?
Mandatory group meetings are held each semester to talk about information pertaining to your classification.  Items covered include what courses you are eligible to take, registration, catalog requirements, student teaching, course changes, and other useful information.
 
What are Mandatory Individual Advising Sessions?
Mandatory individual advising sessions are also held each semester.  You are blocked from registration if you do not attend a session.  Each session is held in 30 minute increments with an advisor.  We help you plan out the next three semesters of coursework as well as cover any questions or concerns you might have.  We do not have assigned advisors, but if you wish to work with a particular advisor on an issue you may request him/her when you schedule your appointment.
 
How do I make an appointment?
There are several ways to make an appointment for your individual advising session.  It is best to call our front office at 845-5312, the week before your assigned session to schedule your appointment.

What is "upper level" and what are the requirements?
To register for 300- and 400-level education courses, you must be admitted to Teacher Education (TEED) or upper level.  This is not the same a junior status.  You must meet several requirements in order for an advisor to declare that you are eligible for the Teacher Education phase of your degree program.  There is a one-time $200 admittance fee after you are admitted. 
 
 How do I drop (Q-drop) a class?
Students may drop courses via web registration through the 5th class day of a fall or spring semester, or through the 4th class day of a summer term.  After the open add/drop period, you must complete a Q-drop form and obtain an advisor's signature.  The form will be processed by our office.  It is your responsibility to check http://myrecord.tamu.edu to verify the changes have been made.
 
 I am eligible for freshman grade exclusion.  How do I get the courses excluded?
A fully admitted, currently enrolled Texas A&M undergraduate student who is "first time in collegemay elect to exclude from his/her undergraduate degree and cumulative GPR calculation grades of D, F, or U. You will need to complete the first year grade exclusion form and bring it to our office.  For more infomation, including a GPR calculator, please visit The Registrar's website on this policy.
 
 Is there a minor in Education?
While The College of Education and Human Developement does offer some options (coaching, dance, and sport management), there is no minor for teacher certification purposes.  For more information about these minors, please visit The Department of Health & Kinesiology.
