Internship

Attention: July CAT Registration Information

Internship Meeting
(For students interested in an internship position for the Fall 2009)
November 4, 2008 Rudder 601 5:30 p.m.

Fall 2009 Internship:
  * Please complete application by December 5, 2008.  (The application will serve as the student teaching application should you elect not to participate in the Internship.) 
    All students are expected to attend the student teaching meeting on February 3.

 
 Students scheduled to student teach in the fall semester and who have completed ALL coursework and requirements except student teaching are eligible to apply to the internship program.  Once accepted into the program, the intern becomes the teacher of record in a classroom. A Master Mentor Teacher is assigned to a group of 5-6 interns to assist with different needs and to promote professional development.
 
 Before applying, a student needs to have the skill and desire to be in a classroom as the sole teacher. To be eligible, intern candidates must have:
 
  • 3.0 overall GPR before Senior Methods Block
  • Recommendations of Senior Methods instructors
  • Recommendations of current and previous mentors
  • Readiness to be teacher of record
  • Ability to make a full year commitment (Fall and Spring)
 
 Benefits to Interns:
 
  • Paid a first year teacher's salary minus a stipend for the Master Mentor Teacher (Starting Salary minus a maximum of $8,000)
  • Earn one year credit with Teacher Retirement System
  • Receive full benefits available from the district
  • Receive extensive mentoring support during the first year of teaching
 
 Other Information:
 
  • Interns will apply for a probationary certificate ($50) for the internship year
  • Interns will have completed the TExES exam prior to the internship experience
  • The Master Mentor Teacher is hired through a collaborative interview with Texas A&M University and the district
  • Texas A&M University arranges the interview process of interns for the districts at the TAMU campus

  • Alief ISD
  • Bryan ISD
  • Clear Creek ISD
  • Humble ISD
  • Richardson ISD
  • Round Rock ISD
