Junior II

Forms for Current Junior II Students

Junior-level preservice students observe and assist mentors as part of their first experiences in actual classrooms. As deemed appropriate by the mentor, they will take an active role in the classroom. Here are some suggested ways they might assist mentor teachers:

  • Tutor/assist individual students
  • Assist with whole class activities
  • Assist with STARR preparation
  • Teach one or more mini-lessons
  • Prepare instructional materials
  • Assist students in the library
  • Assist students in the computer lab
  • Evaluate student work

Mentors will provide opportunities for preservice students to experience a variety of teacher-related activities, concentrating on those activities which keep the student in the classroom setting. If a mentor teacher's planning period falls within the 8:00-11:00 time period, the Junior II student may assist the mentor as needed, or the mentor may arrange for the student to observe another teacher.

Depending on availability of placements, a teacher may mentor an individual Junior II student or a pair of students.

Junior II students are expected to be punctual and to display professionalism in their dress, attitude, and acceptance of responsibilities.

The field based assignment is part of the Junior II student's course grade. Mentor teachers will complete a mid-point and a final evaluation for each student.
