Native American Storyteller To Perform Thursday

4/9/08

Tim Tingle, a sought-after speaker, storyteller and award-winning author of Native American fiction and folklore, will perform "Stories of Values and Cultures that have Shaped American Society" at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (April 10) in MSC 212.

As a storyteller, Tingle brings the lore of the Choctaw Nation to life in lively historical, personal and traditional stories. He plays the Native American flute and often accompanies himself with an assortment of gourd rattles and drums. Vocable chants and hymns sung in the Choctaw language also complement his stories.

He also will be giving an additional performance at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (April 9) at First Presbyterian Church to perform "Family and Inspirational Stories." Tingle's visit is sponsored by the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture, the Multicultural Storytelling Project of the Texas A&M libraries, Bluebonnet ACEI, Phi Delta Kappa, the Aggie Storytelling Association and the Brazos Valley Children's Museum Storytelling Guild.
