PEIC

P-16 Educational Improvement Consortia (PEIC)

PEIC centers are located on each of the 9 Texas A&M system campuses and are dedicated to the improvement of P-16 academic performance. Included in PEIC' initiatives are efforts to increase the high school completion rates in all participating high schools, community colleges and universities as well as an effort to improve the federal (AYP) and the state (TAKS) accountability performance in participating schools.

Online professional development is a priority for PEIC at TAMU. We are committed to a campus-facilitator-mentor model (TOT). Through this model, facilitators are trained with exemplary professional development materials and are then supported to train teachers on their campuses. Open communication and continuing support of teachers in classrooms are vital to excellence and effectiveness through instructional change.

PEIC Programs and Projects:

  • Apply best practices, teacher vertical teaming and curricular change based on student TAKS data in our target schools
  •  Provide support for the Texas Math Diagnostic System and the Texas Science Diagnostic System beginning in the spring of 2006
  • Offer support for Wireless Generation's PDA-based Math Assessment Project for participating K-2 classrooms
  • Help Campuses to articulate and align curriculum and instruction to the TAKS
  • Mine TAKS data for focused interventions, addressing diverse needs

Dr. Cathy Mariotti Ezrailson, Interim PEIC Director and Assistant Research Scientist, serves at the PEIC coordinator at Texas A&M University-College Station.
