Recruiters Seek Aggie Teachers at Career Fair

11/6/09

Texas school districts value Aggie teachers, not only because of the quality of the students themselves, but because of the learning and field experiences provided by their teacher preparation program.

On Monday, Oct. 26, approximately 75 recruiters visited Texas A&M University for the Fall Education Career Fair hosted by the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture in the College of Education and Human Development. Approximately 400 education students attended.

Held in Reed Arena, the event provided an opportunity for school districts and other entities to recruit graduating education students.

"Texas A&M is definitely one of the premier schools in our state and country. Students get a very strong, solid background," said Keith Palmer, a principal from Pasadena ISD. "We've had very good success with our teachers who graduated from Texas A&M. That's why we always come back to recruit."

Karen Kraft, a principal from Frisco ISD, was impressed with the education students' enthusiasm and commitment to learning and growing.

"Every Texas A&M student I've ever hired has always been an excellent quality teacher," she added.

"The reason we like to come to College Station is because in the past, we've hired lots of quality teachers. They come out of the program polished and ready to teach," said Doug Marvin, former student and recruiter from Sheldon ISD. "My experience is that they're ready to meet the rigors of teaching, and Texas A&M supports their student teachers and their experiences in the field very well."
