Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction: Emphasis in Learning Design & Technology
Technology has transformed the way we collaborate, engage, learn, and work. This evolution has reshaped how we design learning environments, and how we collect, analyze and make sense out of data to solve complex problems. Emerging technologies, such as integrated platforms, generative AI, immersive and extended reality (XR), and maker and design spaces, continue to show promise in elevating authentic, real-world and personalized learning experiences.
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Learning Design & Technology (LDT), offered by the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Culture (TLAC), is designed to train the next generation of researchers and leaders. This program aims to advance the evolution of learning technologies across a variety of sectors.
Building on the strong foundation of TLAC’s core Ph.D. program, the LDT degree plan allows doctoral candidates to work with faculty specializing in curriculum and instruction, technology-enhanced learning and teaching, and learning design. Students are encouraged to develop research agendas that investigate and contribute to the field’s growing understanding of technology-enhanced learning, teaching, and design approaches (theories and practice), across K-12, higher education and workforce contexts.
