Howdy! My name is Jackie Yedwab and I am a sophomore 4-8 ELA/Social Studies major from Plano, TX. In the future, I hope to foster a love for history in middle school students, especially by using some of the fantastic technology resources that we learn about in EDCI 365.

When I’m not in class or doing homework, you can find me hanging out with my friends, family, or playing volleyball at the Rec. I also love being involved with freshmen mentorship opportunities on campus! This year, I am an Assistant Director for MSC FISH, this past summer I was a Fish Camp counselor, and I also am a Peer Mentor for a Hullabaloo U section this Fall semester.

This is my first semester as a University Peer Mentor in Technology, and I cannot wait to embark on this journey with y’all! I am looking forward to helping all EDCI 365 students with their amazing projects this year!

  • Gabby Parnell

    - by sko

Howdy! My name is Gabby Parnell and I am currently a junior EC-6th generalist major. I am from Cypress, Texas which is right outside of Houston. After graduation in 2024, I plan on continuing my education to pursue a masters degree in either administration or curriculum development. I am so excited to be working as a UPMT with Dr. Hawk this year.

I have always had an admiration for educators since a young age, but never saw myself being one until I graduated high school. Then, I began to have an interest in education when I started working at a church in their childcare department. I fell in love with the environment and wonderful personalities of the children, prompting me to rethink my future career. Being able to see students learn and change week to week in front of my own eyes, made me excited to teach and inspire kids.

In my free time, you can find me out walking my dog Willie Nelson, baking something sweet, or binge watching a sitcom. I have recently started getting into yoga and reading so those are some more of my favorite things to do in order to decompress. I am also a UPM for RDNG 373 for the first time too so this is a season for new experiences for me.

My goal in this position is to foster an encouraging environment for students to feel comfortable asking questions. I want to be able to guide student’s thinking and support their findings to successfully complete this course. Additionally, I plan on being a soundboard for students and helping them discover/navigate new technological platforms. I am so stoked to be of help to my peers in this position as a UPMT and further their knowledge of technology in teaching.

Howdy! My name is Chavely Owens and I am a Special Education major from Denton, Texas. When I was little, I always remembered playing pretend teacher in my room with my stuffed animals. I’ve always loved learning, and the thing that I am most excited about in my future career is that I will be helping kids grow into their passions!

When I am not in class or studying I am most likely reading a book, rewatching a tv show, or playing video games on my Nintendo Switch. One of my favorite things to do is spend time with my husband and friends by doing a game night that is filled with board games, card games, and video games.

This semester is my first semester as a University Peer Mentor in Technology (UPMT) and I am so excited to help students with any questions they might have when it comes to utilizing technology in the classroom.

Howdy! My name is Zhanna Miller. I am a junior EC-6 Generalist major from Flower Mound, TX, which is north of Fort Worth. I am very excited to serve as your UPMT alongside Dr. Hawk this semester.
During my junior and senior year of high school, I began to explore the education field by taking Human Growth & Development and a practicum class where I had the opportunity to student teach in a third grade classroom. Alongside those classes, I was a member of Texas Association of Future Educators and presented a field-based project on Educational Administration. After graduating high school, I began my undergrad studies at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX with hopes of transferring here to Texas A&M. Following a successful year at Tarleton, I transferred here a year ago to begin my Aggie education as an Early Childhood Education Major.

This is my first semester as a UPMT, so I am very excited to be a resource to you and continue to learn and grow alongside you this semester. Aside from classes and this position, I am a teaching assistant at TAMU’s Becky Gates Children’s Center, involved at St. Mary’s Catholic Center and enjoy spending time with my roommates and friends. I’m a country music fan, love a good rom com, enjoy baking, and work to get a good run in when I find the time.

My goal this semester is to be a helpful resource to students and present information in a friendly way; after all, that’s how we do things here in Aggieland. I hope to grow in my knowledge of technology resources and grow as a mentor and leader as I continue my journey to become an educator. Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out… I’ll always be willing to help in whatever way I can!
