Our program

The Texas A&M University STARTALK World Languages Academy is now recruiting Chinese language teachers for the 2025-2026 program for high school students. This year-round program includes:
- Virtual learning during Spring 2025
- A two-week, in-person, non-residential camp on the Texas A&M campus in Summer 2025
- Continued online lessons and on-campus meetings in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026
The high school students will immerse themselves in language, content, and culture to cultivate their Chinese language skills, gain insights into Chinese culture, and explore career pathways that require or significantly benefit from Chinese proficiency – international affairs, global economy, and cybersecurity.

Time commitment
50 hours
- Participate in professional development
- Develop curriculum
- Design and teach pre-camp online lessons
90 hours
- In-person, non-residential summer camp on the Texas A&M campus (June 1-13, 2025)
- Teach Chinese language and culture
- Collaborate with subject matter experts in international affairs, the global economy, or cybersecurity to develop content-based language lessons
90 hours
- Develop online learning modules and conduct group and individual synchronous sessions.
Compensation commensurate with experience.
Qualifications
Required
- Superior or native-level proficiency in Mandarin Chinese
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- U.S. permanent residency or citizenship
Preferred
- Prior teaching experience in Chinese
- Previous experience teaching at the high school level
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with online teaching and learning management systems
- Knowledge or skills in one or more of the following:
- Traditional Chinese visual or performing arts (e.g., calligraphy, traditional musical instruments)
- International Studies
- Economics
- Science, technology or engineering
